With Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s return, a lot of boxing analyst are saying that he might relinquish his throne as the pound-for-pound king after he beats Juan Manuel Marquez, a title currently held by Manny Pacquiao. With a fight between these two world-class fighters looming at the end of the year, some would like to wait until that fight to make their decision in choosing. That’s just wrong, in my opinion, and Manny Pacquiao is my P4P king, even if he loses to the naturally bigger Mayweather in December.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. : Who is the Pound-For-Pound king of boxing?

You might ask my reasons for unanimously choosing Pacquiao. Well, how about these–Both boxers fought OScar Dela Hoya and Ricky Hatton, but while Floyd Mayweather Jr. had a hard time fighting those two guys (Mayweather even said that Hatton was his toughest challenge), Pacquiao demolished them both in one-sided victories. If that’s not enough reason, here’s another. Pacquiao takes on all worthy challenger by fighting JMM again, David Diaz, de La Hoya and Hatton, while Mayweather was afraid to fight top opposition in Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao is also the most complete fighter with offensive and defensive weapons, and is one of the most thrilling and exciting fighters of our generation, not to mention that he is a humble gentleman on and off the ring. Floyd “Money” Mayweather can only talk of how great he is, but truth is, the greatest ones should not be aware how great they actually were.

Now, it’s your turn to give your opinion on who you think is the top pound-for-pound fighter of the world. Please vote at the right hand side of this website, and state your reasons by leaving them below as comments to this post.

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is the best pound-for-pound fighter of the world…not becuase I’m a Filipino but because “ACTION speaks louder than WORDS”…

It can’t be denied what happened to his previous fights…..all opponents acted as if they encountered their worst nightmare yet the best fighter of all times. Unlike Mayweather in which find hard time to beat fighters like Hatton and Oscar (both tendered their retirement as fighters…am i right?).

Mayweather fight as if playing a scoring game, in which in his every fight, brought me to boredom, unlike Manny – fights as if there’s no next round….

    Mayweather….”LIKE FATHER LIKE SON!”
    all words…no actions….

In my opinion, Manny Pacquiao is the real pound for pound king, base on his previous fights starting from Barrera up to the most recent with Ricky Hatton. The quality of each fight just keep getting better and better. I don’t really think that PBF has the guts and courage to fight Pacquiao in a catch weight. As I see it, Mayweather retired himself when Manny defeated every opponent on the way and realized that Manny’s direction is towards him. His coming fight with JMM is just to pretend that his not afraid with the Pacman but in fact he is. He’s asking bigger share of the purse against Manny thinking maybe this will make Manny disinterested in the fight. If PBF really wants to fight Pacquiao, How about a 60/40 deal? Sixty percent for the winner and 40% for the looser. I’m grinning wide because I’m pretty sure Mayweather will back-out.

ha ha ha…it seems were the only two interested here edwin…
    yap you’re right….
mayweather is asking for something he thinks that will uplift his name, where in fact, it just simply suggests that he;s afraid….
he just said that his not the one who will challenge anyone because he’s the champion, a statement of a coward!
then he should have the bigger part because he’s great, and boxing is a business, so he asked for 60/40….another statement of a coward….

    Mayweather, full of excuses….
For sure he saw what happened to all Manny’s fight…

We are now three in saying that Manny is really the pound 4 pound king. He is the best among the best out there. He will and can fight anybody as long as they can agree on the catch weight. He is not afraid to anybody, unlike Mayweather who have many excuses if he thinks that his opponent has an advantage over him. Manny has no excuses.Once he is inside the ring you can feel the excitement. He is not only a good figther but also an exciting warrior. Long live Manny and the Philippines.

Right now Pacquiao is p4p king. However, you can not discredit Mayweather. Fresh out of retirement he beat Marquez in a unanimous decision. If Mayweather never retired and consistently fought and won fights, with his undefeated record he would be p4p king. But he did retire and during his hiatus Manny was obliterating his opponents many of which Mayweather fought (and won) but perhaps not as convincing as Manny did. That’s because Mayweather is a technical fighter and focuses more on his defense and counter punching. You just can’t knock people out like that. Manny is the exact opposite. He’s a ferocious predator that constantly attacks. Earlier in Manny’s career he was prone to counter punches and had only one weapon which was his left hand. Now Manny is a complete fighter. Weaknesses earlier in his career are now strengths. Now he can knock you out with either hand. He also improved his footwork and head movement which attribute to his defense. To see these two go at it would be the greatest fight of this generation.
