4 months after signing one of his most lucrative fights ever, Filipino Manny “the Pacman” Pacquiao is now in Las Vegas, four days before his fight with British Ricky”the Hitman” Hatton for the IBO Light Welterweight/ Ring Super Lightweight bout. Even though the fight was publicized and promoted with the same intensity as his previous fights, the air is a little dry this time around because for the first time, Pacquiao is not the underdog. Pacquiao is currently considered the top P4P or Pound-for-Pound boxer in the world, after resounding wins against Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz and the Golden Boy Oscar Dela Hoya last year. 90% of boxing experts also predict a Pacquiao victory. Which worries me a little bit because we Filipinos always want to be the underdog, not because the victory is a lot lot sweeter but perhaps because we want to be the underdog and feel nervous before the fight.

Enough of my opinion. Let’s get to some facts for the fight. Pacquiao is still being trained and coached by Freddie Roach, while Hatton is now under the wings of Floyd Mayweather Sr. It’s important to note that the two fighters respect each other and each other’s fans, while their trainers engaged in a personal war and have been throwing below-the-belt comments at each other for some time now (with Floyd calling Freddie “the Joke Coach”, and Freddie saying he is a better boxer than Floyd). If Pacquiao wins, he will tie the record of 6 World Titles in 6 Different Divisions held by Oscar De La Hoya, the man he beat last December. The IBO belt does not really matter more than the Ring’s ranking, wherein Pacquiao is the current P4P fighter but does not rank top in any of the weight divisions because of his decision to dance with Marquez and Dela Hoya in the same year. So yes, if Pacquiao wins, he will be The Ring’s top Super Lightweight, and will cement his bid to Boxing’s Hall of Fame.
I have been a long-time supporter of Pacquiao, and have noticed a lot of firsts in this May 2 fight. I compiled them below and with your help, we can do a whole long list of Manny Pacquiao firsts from this fight.
1. Freddie Roach closed the doors of his gym to the fans and the media for the first time during Pacquaio’s training.
2. Aling Dionisia, Pacquiao’s mother, is in the US to support her son’s fight. Before, Aling Dionisia can be seen praying in General Santos.
3. Pacquiao changed his mind and asked for a larger split, 52%-48%. I’ve never seen Pacquiao negotiate like that.
4. Dyan Castillejo is not covering the Pacquiao fight for ABS-CBN News (instead, Gretchen Fullido is.)
If you would like to add to this list of firsts, just leave a comment below.

Ricky Hatton of course is no push-over. In fact, I sided with him when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007, having seen his fights in Youtube. Hatton is fast and strong, and gets the crowd going with his relentless brawling-style. As much as I wouldn’t want to admit it, Hatton has a real chance of knocking Pacquiao out, a better chance than what Dela Hoya and David Diaz had when they fought the P4P king. But there is a big similarity on how Hatton and David Diaz fight, and if I remember correctly, Diaz with all his strength did not even land a clean shot on Pacquiao in the 9 rounds they fought in the ring, because Pacquiao is just too dam* fast. Pacquiao will be too fast for Hatton as well, not too mention Pacquiao is more ring savvy and is the smarter fighter, and that’s why I am predicting a Manny Pacquiao win.
If you chanced upon this post because you would like to know how to watch the Hatton vs Pacquiao fight on live video, then you’ve come to the right place. I’ll be listing your options below.
1. Get HBO PPV or Solar Access. This is of course the next best thing if you didn’t get that $1000 MGM Grand ticket. The PPV will only cost you $50 at most (lesser amount here in the Phils) and you can share that amount with your friends and relatives.
2. Watch the live telecast in Malls and Public Places. SM Cinemas all over the Philippines and some Robinson’s Movie World has been offering the tickets for a while now, and I’m pretty sure there are still some seats left because of the P600 price tag.
3. Get the fight on your cellphone and mobile device through 3G and DSL connections. I’m not sure about this one, but Smart has carried Pacquiao’s fight over their networks for the past years and I don’t see any reason why they won’t carry the feed of this one.
4. Watch the delayed telecast on free TV through GMA Channel 7. Delayed telecasts may also be available in other parts of the world. The bad thing about this is that they’ll throw a lot of commercials at you and the 45 minute fight will end up airing over 3 hours on free TV.
5. Search google and yahoo for links to the free live streaming video of the fight. Some websites will likely offer this, with some for free and some asking for some money. The quality will not be that good though.
6. Example of such Internet streaming websites are justin.tv and ustream.tv. Check them out.
7. Use streaming video applications like Sopcast and scourge the net for server settings.
If you still did not get the chance to watch the fight, you can always trust someone will post the highlights and even entire round on Youtube. For the replays, CS9 and RPN9 will be broadcasting the fight on primetime TV.
Complete Fight Card/ Undercard List:
Humberto Soto (47-7-2, 30 KOs) vs. Benoit Gaudet (20-1, 7 KOs);
Daniel Jacobs (15-0, 14 KOs) vs. Michael Walker (19-1-2, 12 KOs)
Matt Korobov (4-0, 4 KOs) vs. Aguiar Rodrigo (5-4, 3 KOs)
Erislandy Lara (4-0, 3 KOs) vs. Chris Gray (11-7, 1 KO).
