This is Nonito’s second fight since refused to fight in the consolation bouts to determine the alternates for Sydney and turned pro at the age of nineteen. He was still fresh from his victorious debut of a first-round knockout over Jose Lazaro on Feb. 22, 2001, from Inglewood, Calif.
His second fight proved to be a disaster for he lost to Rosendo Sanchez in a fight he took on short notice. Sanchez was the only guy Nonito was not able to knock down.
It was a close fight that he thought he would won, though it could have gone either way. Sanchez would retire one fight later and Nonito would not get the opportunity to avenge his only defeat. Nonito Donaire is a Filipino boxer and the current IBF and IBO world champion in the flyweight category. Born in Talibon, Bohol, raised in General Santos City in the Philippines.
