Update: Joe Calzaghe wins by Unanimous Decision

Joe Calzaghe, winner of 45 bouts and compiling 32 knockouts from those wins, will battle it out with 8-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. They are fighting for the linear Light Heavyweight championship of the world, a title Calzaghe has been holding on for some time now, and which Jones held at some point in his illustrious career. The fight will be covered and broadcasted live by HBO Pay-Per-View (PPV), and if you do have the money, I suggest you watch this fight through HBO and not the live streaming videos on the Internet. I have watched an HBO presentation myself and the quality of the video footage is impeccable, very much unlike the one on the Internet (unless Yahoo Sports! is also broadcasting the fight). The fight is scheduled for tonight, November 8, 2008 at Madison Square Garden, New York City, USA. I’m pretty sure that a lot of Calzaghe fans from Wales and England in general will tune in to watch this fight. I remember distinctly how they supported him in his fight against Bernard Hopkins (as well as Ricky Hatton vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.).

The fight is billed as “Battle of the Super Powers.”

Both fighters have too much respect for each other that neither were trash-talking on their weigh-in last night. This is a big contrast with Calzaghe’s fight with Bernard Hopkins where both fighters were vowing to kill each other on the ring.

There were rumors weeks before the fight that Zab Judah will be fighting on the undercard of the Calzaghe-Jones fight. The rumor seems to be true. Here are the other fighters who will see action tonight—Emanuel Augustus, Frankie Figueroam Zab Judah, Daniel Eduoard, Dmitry Salita & Derrick Gainer.

My prediction for this fight is that Roy Jones will hand Calzaghe his first loss with an astounding KO in the later round. I also predict that this fight will be fight of the year. This is although ticket sales are slow in New York in lieu of the US Presidential Elections and the financial turmoil being experienced by the US. Anyway, my winner goes out to the legendary and older fighter who I know still has the power to knock Calzaghe out. I personally think Calzaghe punches are too weak and won’t hurt Jones Jr. as much.
