Paul Williams, the lanky Welterweight contender whose promoter claims Antonio Margarito has ducked, will battle it out in the ring at Junior Middleweight with Verno Phillips tonight, November 29, 2008 at Ontario, California. This fight will be broadcasted live by HBO, Boxing After Dark. Both fighters are currently top two in The Rings’ ranking, with Paul Williams ranked 2nd in the Welterweight Division, while Philllips is 2nd at the Junior Middleweight. This means Paul “The Punisher” Williams is moving up in weight, although he is much taller than Verno (5′8″), with Williams at 6′3″.

The free live streaming video of this fight will be available on fight time and will be provided later. If you have a TV though, I highly recommend to watch it on HBO. Highlights and replay of the bout, especially knockout reels, will be available on Youtube and will be posted here as well.

Paul Williams is probably the tallest fighter to fight at Welterweight, and his most important victory as for me is that Unanimous Decision over Antonio Margarito, who defeated Miguel Cotto this year. He has the athletic ability to fight Kelly Pavlik and will probably will in the next few years. Verno Philips on the other hand is a very experienced boxer and is capable of knocking out Williams for the first time in his career. Both fighters passed the mandatory weigh-in.
